Awards
Award Types
Each year, ISNFF recognizes scientists and technologists, health professionals, business leaders, and companies/institutions for their exceptional achievements, contributions, and service to the development of functional foods, nutraceuticals, dietary supplements, and natural health products. The awards of the Society are varied and generally open to all members of ISNFF in specified categories, as summarized below.
ISNFF Fellow Award
Election as an ISNFF Fellow is a unique professional distinction conferred only on a living person with outstanding and extraordinary qualifications and experience for overall contributions in the field of functional foods and nutraceuticals. To be considered for this award, candidates must be nominated or apply for it with a two-page summary of activities in the field and be a continued member of ISNFF for at least 10 years. Any service to ISNFF, if applicable, should also be mentioned.
Lifetime Achievement Award
The Lifetime Achievement Award is an exceptional award, as an expression of appreciation and recognition for his/her eminent contributions in the field of functional foods, nutraceuticals, and dietary supplements through original research, leadership, and service.
Merit Award
The Merit Award is the most important award of the ISNFF and is presented to an individual for outstanding contributions to the nutraceuticals and functional foods discipline and service to the ISNFF.
Industry/Institution Merit Award
The Industry/Institution Merit Award is presented to those individuals or companies for exceptional research and development (R&D) activities leading to products and/or services for the discipline and consumers. To be eligible, corporate membership in ISNFF is required.
Fereidoon SHAHIDI Fellowship Award
The Fereidoon SHAHIDI Fellowship was established in 2009 by the ISNFF Board of Directors to recognize the many contributions of Professor SHAHIDI in the field of nutraceuticals and functional foods. The Fellowship is awarded annually at the ISNFF Annual Meeting & Exhibition to an MSc or Ph.D. graduate student with an outstanding record in both coursework and research performance. Eligibility for this award requires
(i) Proof of graduate student status at an accredited university or college as of September 1st for the calendar year in question and
(ii) Current student membership in the ISNFF.
A letter of application or nomination, along with a letter or letters of support, is required. The award consists of a plaque from ISNFF and a check for US$ 1,500 to advance the deserving student’s education. For application, please make sure to submit your dossier to Professor Chi-Tang Ho (Chair of the award committee at Rutgers University) in good time.
Young Scientist Award
Young Scientist (Early Career) Award: The award will be presented for the first time in 2023.
The applicant/nominee must be below 40 years of age or within 10 years of their last degree graduation and in their initial appointment within. The application, no longer than 2 pages, must highlight exemplary achievements within the nutraceuticals and functional food areas and be a member of ISNFF. A current curriculum vitae should be included, along with two letters of support. The Award consists of a plaque, complimentary registration, and US$ 1,500 towards travel expenses. The recipient must be at the conference and give a presentation on their work.
Student Poster Competition Award
This award is designed to encourage and highlight the outstanding research carried out by students in different areas of functional foods and nutraceuticals.
There will be annual awards for students’ presentation competitions at the annual meetings. To be eligible, students must be members of society. First, second, and third-place awards will include a plaque and a cheque. For eligibility, the presenter must be a student member of ISNFF and be present at the annual conference.
